I did my first injection of estradiol. It was pretty scary, and my technique definitely was not good. But I got the job done. Did I do it well? Probably not, but it happened, and my thigh feels about the same as when I get my flu shot, so I’d say decent enough. I’ll definitely try something else next time though, since I can’t seem to fold my skin correctly (I’m doing subcutaneous). Most assuredly won’t be trying intramuscular, though, because I was already almost about to chicken out doing subq. It was so weird seeing half an inch of a needle go into my body right before my eyes, and that’s not counting the fact that I was doing the injection myself.
Honestly, I’m not sure how it made me feel. It wasn’t one big, grandiose moment; it didn’t feel like anything changed. I know that’s not what I should have expected, and it really wasn’t, but I did expect to feel something more. Apathy, or something between that and joy, is how I’d describe it. Just one injection really is just the stepping stone here, and it’s hard not to be discouraged right now. But the rational part of my brain says I just have to keep going, so I will.
